As work from home becomes the new normal with our current state of society, it’s always important to change things up to keep motivation levels high and energy positive. With everything going on nowadays, having an effective workspace can really make a huge impact not only on our work habits, but our overall lives, as a healthy work life ripples outward. Here are 5 simple but powerful ways to improve working from home!

Have a clean workspace: Having a clean and organized workspace can do wonders for your level of productivity and focus, which sometimes can become neglected when under high amounts of stress and pressure. Keeping your desk simple with just your necessary work items can give you an underlying level of peace as you complete all your work tasks. Putting unnecessary or less important items in your drawers or a designated basket can also help maintain a clean desk area.

Surround yourself with natural environments: Staring at a screen all day can become tiring after hours and hours pass by, so being around the natural wonders of life can definitely bring some joy to your work day. Situating your desk by a window with a nice view can be a great way to feel connected to nature. If this isn’t an option, even decorating your space with plants and flowers can give it that same feeling of serenity and balance as your work away.

Keep away from distractions: With the comfort of working from home comes the distractions that are associated with our home life. Being surrounded by technology, children, pets, and even the temptation to do nothing, it is much easier to lounge all day when your to- do list seems endless. If this seems to be the case with you, put your phone and other distractions far away from your work space to reduce the chances of you getting distracted.

Take stretch or mini walk breaks: Although it doesn’t seem like the case, sitting all day can actually cause you to feel more tired than rested because the body equates stillness with sleep. In order to reverse these negative effects, take frequent breaks. Stretching with a foam roller, taking a brisk walk outside, or even going to the bathroom will give your body the slight jolt it needs to stay motivated and feel energized all day.

Create work signals: Having a regime when it comes to work can be extremely beneficial in inspiring you to work hard. Lighting a candle, opening the window, and playing your favorite playlist is enough to signal your brain that it is work time, entirely shifting your mood and giving you more focus. Having a pre- work ritual is also a good way to make work feel more enticing.
