Fun Holiday Activities in OC & the SGV This November

The second half of November is when Southern California really settles into the holiday season. Cooler evenings, art fairs, craft markets, and the first holiday lights all show up, from the San Gabriel Valley to the Orange County coast. Here are some of the best things to do from Nov. 13 on.

Saturday, Nov. 14: 49th Annual Turkey Trot, San Gabriel
The City of San Gabriel’s 49th annual Turkey Trot takes place Nov. 14 in the Mission District. The city calendar lists a 7:00 AM start. It’s an early start for a cool-weather morning. sangabrielcitysangabrielcity

The festival is at Central Park, 75 S. Raymond Ave., on Nov. 14–15. It’s an indie artisan fair, so you can browse handmade gifts and local makers and then grab lunch in Old Pasadena. visitpasadena

  • Turkey Trot OC 5K, Tustin. It starts at 8:00 AM and benefits the Orange County Rescue Mission. The course is flat and USATF certified, and it starts and ends at the Village of Hope.

  • Dana Point Turkey Trot, Dana Point Harbor. It offers a 5K, a 10K, a 15K combo, and a kids’ 1-mile “Gobble Wobble.”

Fire & Lights Festival, Newport Dunes. Over fifty lit holiday decorations and trees float on the bay each night from Nov. 27, starting at dusk, with fire dancers and other festivities Thursday through Sunday evenings. newportdunes

Winter Fest OC, Costa Mesa. It runs Nov. 27 through Jan. 3 at the OC Fair & Event Center, with ice skating, snow play, carnival attractions, and a nightly tree lighting with falling snow and a parade at 5:30 PM. enjoyorangecounty

Quick Tips

  • Confirm times before you go. Dates and hours can change, so check each organizer’s site.

  • Mind the drive. Traffic between the SGV and OC can be heavy on weekends, so build in a buffer.

  • Book ahead. Ticketed events can sell out.

  • Dress in layers. Coastal and valley evenings get chilly fast.
