“Promises still matter and a handshake still means something.” Powerful words from Alex Sheen, founder of Because I Said I Would, a social movement and nonprofit organization dedicated to the betterment of humanity through promises made and kept. It began as a eulogy for Alex’s father and ended with a worldwide movement, impacting millions of people in over 153 countries. Alex uses “promise cards” to inspire others. He created them to honor his father who was a man of his word, someone who kept his promises. He committed to sending out promise cards at no cost to anyone who requested them and now has sent out over 9.81 million all over the world.

Alex was the key-note speaker at our Seven Gables company-wide meeting over the summer where he shared his powerful and inspiring message with our agents and leadership team. Built on a foundation of positive change and acts of kindness, he spreads his message through worldwide community support and network connections, uniting people on all levels around the globe. Our Seven Gables team left the meeting impassioned and eager to spread the love.

Because I Said I Would has a vision to impact the world through education and volunteerism, emphasizing the importance of a promise. They plan to do this through character education in schools, the creation of high school and college chapters, forming awareness campaigns and distributing promise cards. It’s all about learning personal accountability through service and altruism.

Because I Said I Would is poised to leave its mark on the world. As they describe it “random acts of kindness” or “granting wishes for children” were not well-known concepts too long ago but thanks to large social movements they are now a part of our culture. Alex Sheen and his team hope one day soon, keeping promises and following through on your word will also be ingrained, once again, in our society.
