We all have a role to play in fighting hunger in Orange County, and it begins with taking action.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the rise of hunger has doubled in numbers in Orange County creating more than 400,000 people at risk of going hungry. The impact has devastated children, seniors living on fixed incomes, people with disabilities, and those without homes. And with unemployment at an all-time high in Orange County, there is an ever-increasing number of people who need our help to put food on the table. All of these people are looking to Second Harvest Food Bank for help.
The Second Harvest, Orange County, Food Bank warehouse is 58,000 square feet, with commercial refrigerators and freezers capable of handling 20 truckloads of perishable food. At the warehouse, volunteers receive and package about 26,000 boxes of food each month, for distribution to 50 sites across the county. The Food Bank provides donated food, USDA goods, and purchased food to non-profit agencies in Orange County that serve low-income families and individuals. Annually, the OC Food Bank is able to distribute more than 40 million pounds of food.
Seven Gives Food Drive is running through December 10th and anyone is welcome to participate. We will be collecting several items including the following:
- Peanut Butter Jars
- Canned Meats (tuna, spam, chicken, roast beef, chili)
- Canned Vegetables
- Pop-Top, Easy Open Canned Foods
- Dry Foods (beans, rice pasta, cereal, mac & cheese, pancake mix, oatmeal)
- Snacks (granola bars, beef jerky, fruit leathers, energy bars)
- Drinks (juice boxes, bottled water, bottled coffee, bottle teas)
