6 Local Dog Beaches You Probably Haven't Heard Of

We have all been there! Sneaking out of the back door before work, using sly distraction methods in hopes of a swift escape, doing anything to avoid the dreaded (and all too real) puppy dog eyes.

We know, its hard to leave your dog alone during those long, drudging work days! So, although we can’t free up your work week, we can provide you with some ideas for your pooch and person quality time.

Here are 6 Dog Friendly beaches in OC:

1. Corona del Mar

CDM welcomes leashed dogs from 6am to 10am and after 4:30 pm, making it the perfect spot for all you 9-5ers who are looking for a little downtime. Take an hour or two to explore Main CDM Beach (aka Big Corona), become enlightened at Inspiration Point, and swing down to Little Corona.

2. Dana Point

While dogs are not allowed on Dana Point’s beaches, we’ve included it because of the many beautiful spots where you and your dog can enjoy the amazing views of the Dana Point Coastline. We especially recommend the views found off of Salt Creek Beach Park (33333 South Pacific Coast Highway). Here you can bring a bite to eat and bask in seven acres of beach beauty.

3. Huntington Beach Dog Beach

Orange County’s “dog friendliest beach” where your dog can swim, surf, and play beach ball all year round! This pup paradise runs from 21st Street to Seapoint in North Huntington Beach and is OC’s only dog permitted off-leash beach. You can find parking along PCH and in two designated parking lots north of Goldenwest. Parking is metered at $1.50/ hour, so bring quarters!

Another option if you are feeling more adventurous it to take The Doggie Bus! The Doggie Bus provides free transportation from Tustin to the Huntington Beach’s Dog Beach or Laguna Beach’s Dog Park on Saturdays and Sundays.

Find all the information you need at: http://www.doggiebus.com/

4. Laguna Beach

Enjoy the gorgeous beaches and coves of Laguna Beach where leashed dogs are welcome on public beaches from September 17th through May 31st. Please keep in mind: South Laguna beaches do not allow dogs. During summer hours (June 15th-September 10th) leashed dogs are allowed before 9am and after 6pm.

Laguna has a multitude of dog friendly beaches including the famous boardwalk on Main Beach, the hidden coves of Crescent Bay, Shaw’s Cove, Rockpile, or Picnic Beach at Heisler Park, Wood’s Cove, and Moss Cove.

5. Newport Beach

Here leashed dogs are allowed before 10am and after 4:30pm on ocean front beaches. Bay front beaches are dog friendly before 9am and after 5pm. See yourself spending most of your time in Newport? Maximize your hound and human bonding with a variety of local activities.

6. San Clemente

San Onofre State Beach where leashed dogs are permitted on Trails One and Six.

Take I-5 to Basilone, exit just south of San Clemente and pay the $10 park entrance fee for some unforgettable memories with your mutt.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this blog and learned something along the way! Please share, comment and remember these options next time you whisper promises of longer walks and extra treats to your furry friend.
